0-60 mph in 2.54 seconds, to 100 mph in 6.52 seconds, and passing the quarter mile in 10.78 seconds at 124.5 mph


The 100-kilowatt-hour electric car has arrived in the form of the Tesla Model S P100D, and boy is it quick. The folks from DragTimes got access to one of the first Ludicrous mode-equipped examples delivered to a customer and naturally they immediately strapped a Racelogic Performance Box to it to see what it could do.



It showed the Model S P100D accelerating from 0-60 mph in 2.54 seconds, to 100 mph in 6.52 seconds, and passing the quarter mile in 10.78 seconds at 124.5 mph.

We’re talking performance superior to some million-dollar hypercars, and the Tesla is a large, mass-produced family sedan. The Tesla was also fitted with ordinary 245/45-size 19-inch all-season tires, as opposed to the more exotic, custom-designed rubber most hypercars come with. The results mean the Tesla is surpassed by only the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport (and soon the Chiron) and Porsche 918 Spyder in acceleration at public road speeds.

DragTimes later ran the Model S P100D alongside a Lamborghini Huracán. The Tesla was the quickest off the line but by the end of the quarter mile the Lamborghini was a fraction ahead. The results were 10.79 seconds at 128.7 mph for the Lamborghini versus 10.8 seconds at 122.31 mph for the Tesla.

Tesla’s official claim for the Model S P100D is 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. The latter is governed to help maximize range, which the EPA rates at 315 miles.
